Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Holiday Tour of Homes?

A. The Holiday Tour of Homes is a walking tour through the Saluda River Club neighborhood in Lexington, SC.  The Tour started in 2012 by the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray and it has been our annual “Community Improvement Project”.  The Holiday Tour of Homes features decorated homes in different parts of the neighborhood and a wonderful reception at neighborhood’s Chickawa Outdoor Center.  Various businesses in the Columbia/Irmo/Lexington area sponsor the event.  Proceeds from the event benefit Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter.

Q. What is Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter?

A. Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter is a temporary, safe, and caring haven for abused, neglected, or abandoned children in Richland, Lexington, and Kershaw counties. The shelter provides residential care, medical and mental healthcare, crisis adjustment/transitional counseling, after-school tutoring, recreational and social activities, plus food, clothing, and shelter.  Since Palmetto Place opened in 1977, they have cared for more than 6,700 at-risk children, from newborns to age 17.  To find out more, please visit their website at www.palmettoplaceshelter.org

Q. How do I purchase tickets?

A. You can purchase tickets online for $15.00 each at www.JWCofLakeMurray.org until Saturday, December 6. You can also purchase tickets from any JWC club member. On the day of the event, tickets will be available at the SRC Information Center for $20.00 each.

Q. How does the Tour operate?

A. First, visitors must start at the Saluda River Club Information center. If you purchased your ticket online, we will have it for you at the center. Visitors will receive a wristband to wear during the Tour and a brochure with a map of the neighborhood. Visitors can either walk or drive throughout the neighborhood to view the houses. A yard sign will be placed outside of each participating house and a member of the JWC of Lake Murray will be present to greet you and ensure you are wearing a Tour wristband.

Q. Where do I go after I view the houses?

A. We invite you to attend our wonderful reception at the neighborhood’s beautiful Chickawa Outdoor Center. Located at the back of the River District, this center will be filled with festive décor, food, drinks, and plenty of raffle prizes! You can also cast your vote for the “Best Decorated House” and learn more about our beneficiary, Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter. Proceeds from all the raffle prizes will also benefit Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter. Raffle tickets are $1 each and may purchased with cash or credit card.

2012 Holiday Tour of Homes

In December 2012, JWC of Lake Murray partnered with the Saluda River Club (SRC) neighborhood in Lexington, SC to present the first annual Holiday Tour of Homes.   Guests were invited to tour through eight beautifully decorated homes in the SRC and then enjoyed a lovely reception at the Chickawa Outdoor Center with door prizes provided by local vendors.  Guests voted on their favorite home on the tour which was awarded a prize from SRC.    Proceeds from the Holiday Tour of Homes benefited the Palmetto Place Emergency Children’s Shelter.
From PalmettoPlaceShelter.org: “The mission of Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for abused and neglected children, offering them a broad range of services that encourage and promote healing through positive and healthy choices. The shelter is open 24 hours each day of the year and provides medical and mental health care, crisis adjustment/transitional counseling, after-school tutoring and recreational and social activities in addition to food, clothing and shelter.”

THANK YOU to Our 2012 Holiday Tour of Homes Sponsors.  With your help, we raised nearly $4500 for Palmetto Place.  We are grateful to everyone who helped to make our first annual event a great success!
