Club Social: Wrapping for a Good Cause

It's that time of year when the Junior Women's Club of Lake Murray gets together to help make Christmas special for one Midlands family. On Tuesday club members gathered to wrap items and, to celebrate in style, also have an ornament exchange.

Zoo Trip

Time to get creative!  The Arts Department hosted the February Volunteer Event for the club. Several JWC of Lake Murray members met children from a local childrens' shelter at the Riverbanks Zoo for an afternoon of fun! Before the event, members of the Arts Department met and put together Art Gift Bags for the children. The bags contained art supplies and toys - fun items for children to use to get creative! The bags were used as parting gifts for the children at the conclusion of the zoo trip.

We had a fun time and enjoyed meeting all 14 children! Feeding the llamas and goats was a new experience for some, but everyone enjoyed it!

It's always great spending time with these children and hearing about their dreams and goals for the future. One girl we met is graduating from high school this year and said her goal is to become a social worker in order to help others in her same situation.  Another girl said she wants to work in criminial justice to help prevent tragedies similar to those she had in her family. These children are working hard toward their futures and it's wonderful to be able to spend time with them and cheer them on!
