Club Activities 2019-2020
The Junior Women's Club of Lake Murray kicked off the club year with our annual Membership Event! We welcomed guests and returning members to come hear all about the programs and activities planned for the coming year! At the event, we collected gently used shoes for Soles4Souls.
In September, the JWC of Lake Murray helped sponsor the annual Dam Swim for Drew!
Members assisted in packing the swim bags and the club donated funds to sponsor this great cause.
At the end of September, the club worked alongside the Lake Murray Irmo-Woman's Club at the annual Irmo Okra Strut. We helped cook and sell the famous fried okra! It was such a great event and we loved working with our club sisters!
In October, we heard from a local medical oncologist, Dr. Coker, about cancer prevention.
We also collected care items for patients at SC Oncology Associates.
Across the county, GFWC Juniors participate in Children's Advocacy Week every October.
This year, we held a Bunco Night fundraiser. Proceeds benefitted a local children's shelter, Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter.
In November, Brooks Herring was our guest speaker. He spoke to the club about the benefits and the necessity of the Fisher House for our veterans. He also told us about the local USC Veterans Day 5k!
Later in the month, several club members participated in Leeza Care Connection's annual fundraiser, Dare to Care. We also visited Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter on 3 different occasions to spend time with the children.
Merry Christmas! In December, the club supported the preservation and maintenance of the historical GFWC-SC Club Headquarters in Columbia, the Sims-Stackhouse Mansion. The club donated a "Merry Fitness" themed stocking for the silent auction. Several members were in attendance too!
The club also adopted a family from Prisma Health Children's Hospital and donated funds for a Thanksgiving dinner and gifts from their Christmas Wishlist.
Happy New Year!
In January, the club welcomed representatives from Harvest Hope Food Bank. We learned all about this wonderful place and donated items to their food bank.
The club also participated in Habitat for Humanity Build Days on 2 different occasions. Members worked alongside each other and the homeowner to help build a new home! It was a great, hands-on project that has become an annual tradition in our club.
In March, the monthly club meeting was focused on learning about the vital role of a child life specialist and how we can support their efforts at Prisma Children's Hospital. Several members also took a tour of Harvest Hope Food Bank and the club made a financial donation to help with their programs.

current members have to say about the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray.
“I
joined the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray four years ago to have the
opportunity to serve the community and meet new people since I was relatively
new to the Lexington area. Along the way I have participated in some great
service projects as well as have met some amazing ladies who are equally as
passionate as giving back. The club meetings,
socials and service projects are great ways to take a break from the stress of
work.” Courtney W
“In general, I’d have to say my favorite part about
the club is that it provides a chance to get together with like-minded young
women to find simple ways to uplift our community while also having a great
time building friendships with one another.” Megan Y
“I
joined Junior Women’s Club so that I could be a part of a group of women that
are helping others and making our local area a better place. So far my favorite
event was our Barre class fundraiser that raised money for SC Oncology
Associates cancer patients.” Michelle B
